The strap-line under PSL’s corporate logo reads ‘the food professionals’ and there is certainly no arguing with that statement when you consider its industry pedigree. The Warwickshire-based outfit boasts 20 years’ experience helping catering and hospitality clients maximise and sustain food margins through purchasing, operational support and systems and controls.

With a team of buyers managing more than 200 food suppliers that cover all its clients’ requirements, PSL claims to be the UK’s largest independent food purchasing company for the hospitality industry. National operations manager Stephen Nash is part of a highly experienced and professional senior team that deals with prestigious names such as Carluccio’s, Four Seasons Hotels and Best Western. Stephen purchases for a number of key accounts and while his focus and that of PSL is predominantly food, the long-term relationships he has with the catering equipment supply chain allow him to offer knowledge and insight where needed. One supplier who nominated Stephen for the Power List says this joined-up approach ensures customers are always left safe in the knowledge that they will receive the best support at all times.

Stephen’s industry experience renders him an undoubted asset to his clients and colleagues. Since 2002 he has helped to nurture PSL’s national operations team, ensuring that all operations staff are managed, trained and equipped to help clients achieve food cost reduction — in some cases by as much as 15% to 20% — without impacting quality.

To say Stephen knows his way around a kitchen is an under-statement. Before joining PSL, he spent 24 years as a chef, working for leading names in the UK and Australia, including Le Caprice, Cafe du Jardin and the Hyatt Regency. Impressively, he was Raymond Blanc’s executive chef for four-and-a-half years, during which time he opened three Le Petit Blanc restaurants, and he also carries the distinction of being the official chef for the 2002 European Ryder Cup team.
